Although, there are many immigration program pathways available to international students after graduation. The most assured way to immigrate to Canada with low express entry points and a Study Permit is through the Provincial Nomination Programs! These programs may provide international student graduates with accelerated pathways to becoming Canadian permanent residents.
If this is something that you are interested in and you wish to qualify for permanent residency swiftly, there are certain criteria that have been set by the Federal Government of Canada’s Express Entry system that you must also meet to be eligible.
The following conditions must be met:
- Applicants are required to have a valid Express Entry Profile Number and a Job Seeker Validation code.
- While living in the province, the applicant must also fulfil one of the following conditions to be eligible:
- The applicant must be enrolled in a government-funded post-secondary institution in the province the applicant resides. Or
- The applicant must work for an employer in the province the applicant resides.
- If the applicant meets the conditions set out, the applicant may apply for Permanent Residency in Canada.
- When an applicant has been approved for a Provincial Nominee Certificate, the applicant will be rewarded 600 points towards their Express Entry Profile. After that, the applicant receives an invitation to apply for a Permanent Residency in the next draw.
- In some province, an applicant may be eligible to apply for this program as a student. Such applicant does not need to wait for a year of foreign work experience and the applicant will qualify for Express Entry.

Q: What is PR Readiness, and does it apply to me?
A: Yes, PR readiness applies to you. PR Readiness means that you meet all minimum eligibility requirements and that you have all the required documents on hand to prepare and submit a complete and correct application to the Province and the Government of Canada.
Q: What post-secondary institution may I attend?
A: You may attend any publicly-funded institution located in the province.
Q: What is the minimum duration of study required?
A: The minimum duration of study required is a one-year degree, diploma or certificate program. Proof of studies is required from the institution.
Q: What is the first step in applying?
A:
- Proof of residency in the province;
- Proof of completion from the post-secondary institution (example: degree or certificate with the date on which you receive your diploma as well as a transcript); and
- A valid Federal Express Entry Profile Number and Job Seeker Validation Code.
Q: May I apply without starting a job?
A: You may apply with a job offer letter and without starting the job.
Q: Am I required to live in The Province for the duration of my studies?
A: Yes, apart from scheduled breaks and holidays, you are required to live in the Province for the duration of your studies. Proof of your residency in the Province will be required.
Q: Do I need a valid study permit?
A: Yes, you need a valid Canadian study permit. While residing in Canada it is your responsibility to comply with all its requirements and to maintain legal immigration status.
Q: If I accept an offer of employment from a company that does not have a business located in the province, or I choose to leave the Province, will my application be refused, and my nomination certificate revoked?
A: Yes, if you accept an offer of employment from a company that does not have a business located in the province, or otherwise leave the Province, your application will be refused, and your nomination certificate revoked.
